Cyanotype Printmaking Workshop

Learn how to make cyanotype prints with AgX member Kyle Petty. This workshop will take you through the process of making simple Cyanotype prints using photographic negatives or translucent materials. One of the simplest alternative printing processes, cyanotypes use a combination of two inexpensive chemicals and the sun’s UV rays to create a vivid, Prussian blue print. The process is safe and easy enough to reproduce at home in the kitchen sink.

The workshop will cover the entire printing process, including: paper selection, mixing the chemicals, coating the paper with emulsion, exposing, and developing the print. We will be using DIY exposure boxes to expose the cyanotype prints and the sun if the weather permits. More advanced topics will be covered at the end of the class, including making negatives from digital photographs.
*NOTE: Participants should bring a large photographic negative (4x5 or bigger) or a selection of translucent objects to print with. All other printing equipment including chemicals, paper, and printing frames will be provided at the workshop.

Registration will be open until the maximum number of attendees is reached.
