Super 8 film was introduced to the market over 50 years ago as a cheap and accessible consumer friendly format for capturing home movies. It was taken up by artists who explored the medium, and pushed its aesthetics for work that could not have been made otherwise. Recently there has been a renewed interest in the format and Kodak and other companies are reintroducing new film.
The Boston-based AgX Film Collective is excited to offer an overview of Super 8 filmmaking at the Somerville Community Media Center in Union Square. In this class, students will become familiar with Super 8 cameras – film stocks and editing, through lecture, demonstration, and hands on experience.
Participants will learn the process of shooting and editing their own Super 8 film. Cameras for in class use and editing supplies will be provided as well as 1 roll of black and white film
Students will also have the opportunity to explore working with found footage and hand-manipulation of film.
